The FireShield Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher is specifically designed to tackle fires involving cooking oils and fats, making it ideal for use in commercial kitchens such as those in restaurants, cafes, and catering facilities. It is easily recognised by its red cylinder with a yellow label.
This extinguisher contains a potassium acetate-based solution, which is highly effective at extinguishing Class F fires. When applied to burning oil or fat, the agent reacts with the hot surface to form a soapy, cooling layer (a process known as saponification). This layer seals the surface, cutting off the fire’s oxygen supply and quickly bringing the flames under control.
In addition to combating cooking-related fires, FireShield Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers are also safe for use on electrical fires, adding to their versatility. However, they are not suitable for fires involving flammable liquids (Class B), gases (Class C), or combustible metals (Class D).
