The Pepperl+Fuchs Z978 Zener Barrier is a 2-channel AC barrier that prevents excessive energy transfer from safe areas to hazardous areas, providing intrinsic safety for AC and DC circuits.
It employs reverse-connected zener diodes with alternating polarity; if voltage exceeds safe limits, the diodes conduct and the internal fuse isolates the hazardous area. This makes it suitable for field devices in Zone 0, 1, or 2 locations when properly grounded.
