If you work as a Fire and Security Engineer, you have to be prepared for Martyn’s Law and understand how it affects your customers.

Martyn’s Law represents a major shift in security and safety legislation. Martyn’s Law, formally known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, has been introduced to improve public safety by ensuring that venues and public spaces are better prepared for the threat of terrorism. Here’s the venues currently affected by Martyn's Law.
Standard Tier (Capacity 200-799): Most premises and events with public access for qualifying activities, such as smaller retail stores, community centres, pubs, restaurants, independent cinemas, and some educational settings.
Enhanced Tier (Capacity 800+): Larger venues and events like major shopping centres, sports stadiums, large music festivals, large entertainment venues, and certain government buildings.
The core aim of Martyn’s Law is to reduce risk and improve preparedness. This includes taking proportionate steps to protect occupants and staff in the event of a terrorist incident.
For many premises, this means formalising lockdown procedures and ensuring the physical measures are in place to support them.
In a real incident, occupants need to be able to secure a space quickly and effectively. That’s where Trade Fire’s lockdown range comes in. This equipment is used to alert occupants so that the appropriate lockdown protocols can be followed effectively.
From a compliance point of view, installing these products demonstrates a practical way for duty holders to show they’ve taken reasonable steps to protect people on site, exactly what Martyn’s Law is designed to enforce.
